2024.04.13-05.13 GD, HK, and Macau host the GBA

The finals of the "2024 Greater Bay Area University Student Tax Debate Invitational," jointly hosted for the first time by the Guangdong Provincial Tax Service Bureau, the Hong Kong Taxation Institute, and the Taxation Association of Macau, and organized by the Zhuhai Tax Service Bureau and the Zhuhai National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone Tax Service Bureau, opened on May 13 at the Zhuhai campus of Jinan University. After 26 rounds of intense competition, including preliminaries, quarterfinals, and semifinals, the event featured guidance and commentary from financial and taxation experts and top Chinese-language debaters. The debate teams from the University of Hong Kong and Shenzhen University engaged in a final showdown on the topic "Serving the Development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area: Is Advancing the Alignment of the Three Tax Systems or Promoting Coordinated Tax Administration More Important?" Ultimately, the University of Hong Kong emerged victorious, with Shenzhen University taking second place, and South China Normal University and Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University sharing third place. The "Tongsheng Tax Debate" team won the Style Award, and Kwok Yan-kiu from the University of Hong Kong was named Best Debater.

The event, themed "Tax Debate Development: A New Driving Force," was held from April 13 to May 13, featuring online preliminaries and quarterfinals, as well as in-person semifinals and finals. The competition leveraged a "tax authorities provide the platform, universities perform, experts guide" mechanism, inviting 24 universities from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau, including Sun Yat-sen University, the University of Hong Kong, and the University of Macau, to compete. Financial and taxation experts, along with top Chinese-language debaters, provided guidance and commentary. Since the start of the competition, it has attracted young students and debate enthusiasts from across the country, who participated online, immersing themselves in this Greater Bay Area tax debate feast.

As an event that has been held for six consecutive years, the Greater Bay Area University Student Tax Debate Invitational has become an important brand for the Guangdong tax authorities in promoting tax law education. This year marks the fifth anniversary of the release of the "Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area," and it is the first time the Guangdong tax authorities have collaborated with the Hong Kong Taxation Institute and the Taxation Association of Macau to host this competition. Wu Yonghong, a member of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Zhuhai Tax Service Bureau, stated that this event provides a platform for tax law promotion, talent showcasing, and exchange and integration for students from universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau. It aims to better serve the youth of the three regions, promote their in-depth exchange and integration, and encourage them to join the new journey of the Greater Bay Area's development.
